National Mentoring Month

Students at a Computer Lab

January 2014 marks the 13th anniversary of National Mentoring Month

National Mentoring month was organized to highlight mentoring and the positive impact it can have on both mentors and the people they assist.  Organizations including Harvard Mentoring Project, MENTOR, and the Corporation for National and Community Service have banded together to raise awareness of the benefits of mentoring as well as the positive impact mentoring offers.  Through this effort, they hope to increase the number of mentors and assure brighter futures for the nation’s youth.

President Barack Obama recently stated, “In every corner of our Nation, mentors push our next generation to shape their ambitions, set a positive course, and achieve their boundless potential. During National Mentoring Month, we celebrate everyone who teaches, inspires, and guides young Americans as they reach for their dreams.”

Mentoring can be useful in every area of a person’s life; personal, academic, or corporate, and can benefit anyone of any age.   Mentors may provide their services in person or through online venues.  The emergence of online mentoring has opened up the ability to thousands of potential volunteers who previously may have felt they didn’t have the time to commit to the traditional face-to-face model of mentoring and/or tutoring.

Mentors are rewarded by sharing their knowledge and skills and with helping others succeed. All one needs to be a mentor is a passion for the subject matter and a willingness to spend a few hours per month developing a relationship with a student.

Ed4Career is proud to provide optimal instructional resources to students seeking continuing education.  We offer many avenues of support for students, including:

1.      Course mentors

Educational Course Mentors are our front-line customer service representatives and are there to help students when they need it.

2.      Online Student Center

Our Online Student Center hosts resources to support a student’s learning experience. Interactive discussion boards allow students to post tips for succeeding in the classroom and in the workplace. Students can find helpful study tips, career resources as well as inspiration and motivation to help them succeed.  Students are advised to visit the Online Student Center regularly to see the latest news and trends, listen to other students' stories, and share their own in this collaborative online student community.

3.      Two hours of No-Cost online tutoring services

Ed4Career has recently announced that we will offer two hours of no-cost tutoring services for our most popular courses through NetTutor.   These tutoring sessions, provided at no extra cost to students, will be implemented for three of the most popular online education courses provided by Ed4Career: Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology and Pharmacy Calculations. We hope to offer online tutoring capabilities for an expanded range of courses in the future.

·         In offering online tutoring services in conjunction with our encompassing courses, Ed4Career is seeking to improve the knowledge retention and comprehension rates of students seeking continuing education.

·         Free tutoring opportunities will serve to build upon the ideas taught in Ed4Career’s virtual classrooms and translate into academic success for students pursuing a better understanding of crucial ideas.
